Mariah Carey Discografie - Album Emotions INFO: Mit 10 Songs
ist "Emotions" ein "kleines Album" und war - kurz nach "Mariah Carey"
erschienen - kommerziell zwar weniger erfolgreich, gleichwohl aber ein
wirklich gutes mit großen, gefühlvollen Balladen.
Auf "Emotions" setzte Mariah die begonnene Zusammenarbeit mit dem
Producer Walter Afanasieff intensiver fort (vier Songs), der hier
erstmals an erster Stelle als Produzent benannt wird und der dann auch
die nachfolgenden Alben bis "Butterfly" mit seiner besonderen
musikalischen Handschrift und seinem Gefühl für
große Balladen prägen wird. Mariah Carey zeigte zugleich, daß ihr erstes Album keine Ausnahme war, sondern daß sie an ihren Liedern generell als Songschreiberin und Mitproduzentin beteiligt war - kaum eine andere Sängerin war so sehr persönlich eingebunden in Entstehung, Bearbeitung und Produktion ihrer Songs wie Mariah Carey. David Cole (vier Songs) und die berühmte Songschreiberin Carole King ("If It's Over") haben gleichfalls einen großen Beitrag zu "Emotions" geleistet. Die "Emotions"-Single stürmte auf Platz 1 der Billboards und wurde damit die 5. # 1 Single von Mariah in Folge seit ihrem Debüt. Das hatte vor ihr noch keine Newcomerin geschafft. SINGLES: Aus dem Album "Emotions" wurden 4 Singles ausgekoppelt: "Emotions", "Can't Let Go" und "Make It Happen" - Versionen von "Till The End Of Time" (Hasta El Final Del Tiempo) erschien allerdings nur in Mexiko und Spanien.

Besonderheit: "Can't Let Go" ist eines der wenigen schwarz-weiß gedrehten Videos von Mariah und das erste, in dem sie mit glatten Haar zu sehen ist.
Album ReviewsFan-Review: Anno ´91, da war´s noch nicht völlig ausreichend, sich in einer Fernseh-Castingshow durch die Bohlen-Maschine quetschen zu lassen, um zum "Superstar" aufzusteigen. Mariah Carey, amtlich anerkannter Megastar im Jahre 2003, musste sich nämlich damals so einiges anhören ... und das, obwohl sie damals bereits ein Nr.1-Platin-Album und 4 Nr.-1-Hits in der Tasche hatte - "Eintagsfliege", "ohne stimmliche Begabung" - bevor Mariah ersteres spätestens mit "Music Box" wiederlegte und zweiteres mit "Unplugged" - veröffentlichte sie erst einmal ein 2., nur 10 Songs langes Album namens "Emotions" - und erntete Platin und einen weiteren Nr.-1-Hit! Tja, und eben dieser ist "Emotions" - ein peppiger Disco-Knüller, fast übersprudelndvor Spaß. Neben großen, eher stilleren Balladen bilden eben jene tanzbaren, poppigen Soul-Upbeats den zweiten, völlig anders klingenden Schwerpunkt des Albums - pure "Emotion" eben. "Make it happen" ist auch so ein Song: Mitsing- und absolut tanzbar, geschickt arrangiert aus sexy, frischem Popsoul; auch so ein poppiges Perlchen ist "To be around". Berühmt bei den Fans allerdings ist "Emotions" eher wegen der Balladen - und hier erreicht MC eine fast atemberaubende Vielfalt - von der gediegenen Pianonummer "The Wind" über das sphärische, schwebend- melancholische "Can´t let go" bis zum klassischen Mariah-Schmachter "So Blessed". Eine nette Überraschung übrigens gibt´s auf "You´re so cold": Wo JEDER mit einer traurigen Gescheiterte-Beziehungs-Ballade gerechnet hatte, serviert Miss Carey fetzige Dancefloor-Beats - ich musste erstmal lächeln. Da hat MC ganz schön auf´s Glatteis geführt... Ansonsten aber ist alles,"wie es sein solte":Auch "And don´t you remeber" und "If it´s over" schmelzen vor "Emotions"; alles bestens also. Mein persönlicher Favorit? Bei "Can´t let go" würde wohl selbst der allereisigste Schneemann vor Mitleid in Tränen ausbrechen, wenn Mariah "There you are / holding her hand / feeling so lost / dyin´to understand ... ganz unglücklich ins Mikro haucht. Also, alles in allem schöne Balladen, fetzige Upbeats - keine musikalischen Großüberraschungen, dafür solid-perfekte Soul / Pop-Perlen. Gelungen. Allgemein gilt "Emotions" schon als das Album, mit dem Mariah auf die Soul- Göttinnen-Stufe der Whitney Houston kletterte.... Denn die bringt die raketengleich in den Charts- Olymp gestartete Amerikanerin mit ihrer Wahnsinnsstim- me in allen Schattierungen rüber. Dabei klettert sie vokal in solche Höhen, daß einem schwindlig werden kann, gospelt mit einer Hingabe, die Weißen nur selten gege- ben ist und setzt so konsequent wie dezent auf program- mierte Helfer. Hitträchtiger Pop-Soul, der zurückhaltend mit dem Zeitgeist kokettiert, ohne dadurch auf den Geist zu gehen." (Audio)
