Mariah Carey Discografie - Album #1's INFO: "#1's" ist
eine Zusammenfassung der dreizehn Nummer-1-Hits von Mariah Carey von
1990 bis 1998 und einiger neuer Titel. Interessant, wie Mariah Carey im
Vorfeld der Veröffentlichung dieses Albums erklärte,
warum dies trotz der 13 Nummer-1-Hits kein "Best Of" Album sei: sie
persönlich halte manche Songs, die nicht Platz 1 der Charts
erreichten oder nicht auf ihren CD's veröffentlicht wurden und
nun auch nicht auf dem aktuellen Album sind, für besser.
Deshalb sei "Ones" kein richtiges "Best Of"-Album, sondern mehr eine
Sammlung von Hits, die dank ihrer Fans Nummer 1 Songs wurden.Es schließt an das an, was Mariah Carey in einem Interview 1995 sagte: "Viele haben den Druck, erfolgreich zu sein. Für mich ist es eher der Druck, immer besser zu werden. Das ist mir wichtiger." Auf dem Album wurden zudem einige neue Songs veröffentlicht, so das Duett mit Whitney Houston zum Film "Prince Of Egypt" (Der Song wurde mit einem Oscar ausgezeichnet), eine Neufassung von "When You Believe" als Duett mit Brian McKnight und als weitere Kooperation "Sweetheart" mit Jermaine Dupri (von Dupri's Album "Life In 1472") sowie die am Marylin Monroe-Stil angelehnte Ballade "I Still Believe". Der Song stammt übrigens im Original von Brenda K. Starr. Mariah hatte ihn als Dankeschön an Starr aufs Album genommen, denn Mariah Carey hatte vor ihrer Karriere ihren ersten Job als Backgroundsängerin bei Brenda bekommen. "#1's" wurde inzwischen mit Fünffach-Platin ausgezeichnet und damit stellte Mariah einen neuen Rekord auf: 8 Alben in Folge, die allein in den USA mindestens 3 mal Platin erhielten. SINGLES: Aus dem Album "#1's" wurden 4 Singles ausgekoppelt, "I Still Believe" (in 2 Versionen mit verschiedenen Remixen), "Sweetheart" (stammt aus dem Album "Life In 1472" von Jermaine Dupri, wurde in den USA nicht veröffentlicht), "Do You Know Where You're Going To?" (als Promo-Single in Europa und Brasilien) und "When You Believe" (vom Soundtrack zu "Prince Of Egypt", erschien auch auf dem Album von Whitney Houston).
Andere Alben, die zur Zeit von Mariah Carey's "#1's" erschienen und Produktionen mit Mariah enthielten, waren: "Life In 1472" von Jermaine Dupri, auf dem die Koproduktion "Sweetheart" mit Mariah war, das Soundtrackalbum zu "Prince Of Egypt" mit dem Carey / Houston Duett "When You Believe", das sich auch auf Whitney Houstons Album "My Love Is Your Love" findet. Desweiteren war Mariah mit dem Duett "Got to Be Real" auf dem Album von Patti LaBelle "Live! One Night Only" sowie mit "Freestyle Pt. 2 (Mariah feat. The League)" auf der CD von Funkmaster Flex Vol. III vertreten.

Dazu die Clips zu "Sweetheart" und "When You Believe" Kurioses & Anmerkenswertes: Das Video zu "Sweetheart" wurde u.a. im bzw. auf dem berühmten Guggenheim-Museum in Bilbao (Spanien) gedreht. Teile des Videos zum "ISB-Remix" wurden dagegen in Mexiko aufgenommen. Der Clip zu "I Still Believe" entstand auf der Edwards Air Force Base in Kalifornien. Mariah's Outfit und Frisur erinnerten dabei an Marylin Monroes Auftritt vor den US-Soldaten in Korea. Das Video zu "When You Believe" wurde in der Brooklyn Academy of Music gedreht. Mit dabei als Kulisse Fans der beiden Sängerinnen - für jede genau gleich viele :-)
Album ReviewsHier präsentiert uns die bestverkaufendste Künstlerin der 90er eine Werkschau von 18 Songs, von denen ganze 13 in den vergangenen 8 Jahren einmal die US-Billboard Charts anführten. Dazu gibt’s Bonustracks, z.B. ein herzzerreißendes Duett mit Whitney Houston sowie die deutsche No.1-Single "Without you". Der Rest ist perfekt arrangierter, poppiger Soul mit R&B'-Einschlag, wie wir es von ihr kennen. Einzig überraschender Moment ist ein Anflug von Hip Hop ("Fantasy"), bei dem sich ohrenscheinlich auch Wu-Tang Rapper 'Ol Dirty Bastard' Mariahs Charme nicht entziehen konnte. Obendrein saß auch noch Puff Daddy an den Reglern, so daß die Flopgefahr für diese Nummer gegen minus unendlich strebt.(aus LAUT)
