Mariah Carey Discografie - Album Unplugged INFO: Die
berühmte MTV "Unplugged" Serie umfaßt eine Reihe von
Studio-Live-Auftritten berühmter Musiker. Das Konzert von
Mariah war das erste "Unplugged"-Konzert, das dann als CD
veröffentlicht wurde. Millionen konnten sich von der
außergewöhnlichen Stimmbegabung Mariah Carey's -
live und natur - überzeugen, nachdem Kritiker vorher
ihre Live-Fähigkeiten angezweifelt hatten. Es ist auch Mariah Carey's Verdienst, daß "MTV Unplugged" zu einer der besten und erfolgreichsten Show des Musiksenders wurde, in der eine Reihe der größten Musiker ihr Können live demonstrierte. Es war ihr erstes größeres Livekonzert vor Publikum und es war ein großer Erfolg. "Unplugged" ist das bislang einzige Live-Album von Mariah. Eigentlich schade, daß es davon nicht mehr gibt. Gerade in Zeiten, wo eine Musik dominiert, in der blitzgecastete Pseudostars nur noch mit ihrem künstlich erzeugtem Image herhalten, während "Mr. Computer" die "Musik" erledigt, sind solche Live-Alben besonders wertvoll. SINGLES: Aus dem Album "Unplugged" wurden zwei Singles veröffentlicht, "I'll Be There" und "If It's Over", wobei letztere nur in Europa und Japan erschien. (Auf der japanischen Ausgabe von "If It's Over" gab es übrigens eine Sprachnachricht an Mariah's Fans.)
REMIXE: - VIDEOS: Vom MTV "Unplugged" Konzert gibt es ein Homevideo, auf dem außer dem Konzert noch die Videos zum "Emotions"-Album "Make It Happen, "Can't Let Go" und "Emotions" (die Langfassung) zu sehen sind und einige persönliche Comments von Mariah. (Wer die MTV Fernseh-Fassung des Unplugged Konzerts mit Mariah Carey gesehen hat, dem wird übrigens aufgefallen sein, daß dort der letzte Song, "Can't Let Go", fehlt.) Zu den Singles "I'll Be There" und "If It's Over" wurden zudem zwei "Videos" veröffentlicht, die einfach die Ausschnitte aus dem Konzert mit den Songs enthalten. (So wie die Single wurde auch der Clip zu "If It's Over" nur in Europa und Japan gespielt.)
Album ReviewsFan-Review: Dass die Vereinigten Staaten immer ganz gern einen eigenen Weg gehen, merkt man auch musikalisch. Ein ganz großes "Darling" haben die Staaten immer ganz oben in den Charts - in den frühen 80ern Madonna mit Songs wie "Like a virgin" oder "Holiday", in den späten dann Whitney Houston z.B. mit "I´m your baby tonight". Eine allerdings schlug sie alle; ein ganzes Jahrzehnt lag ihr zu Füßen - und auch Anno ´03 ist Mariah Carey noch längst nicht abgeschrieben. Dabei ist es jetzt immerhin ein sattes Jahrzehnt her, dass sie mit dem 3. Album "MTV Unplugged" endgültig Musikgeschichte schrieb - wo vorher jede Menge Kritiker die Stimme der Megadiva als Studioprodukt "geoutet" hatten, ließ Mariah 1992 nur noch offene Münder zurück - sie sang ihr erstes Livekonzert gleich als Teil der damals noch jungen, heute mit Performern von Jay Z über Sheryl Crow und Shakira bis zu Lauryn Hill und Nirvana längst legendären "MTV Unplugged" Reihe. Das heißt: Nix mit Strom, nix also mit Mischpult, E-Instrumenten und ähnlichem "Schnickschnack". Nur die Carey-und die 27(!)-köpfige Begleitband - nötig hatte Mariah die zumindest stimmlich allerdings nicht.Wenn schon, denn schon - das könnte das Motto dieses Konzerts / Albums sein, und gleich der erste Song, "Emotions", lässt hier Worten Taten folgen: Der legendäre "Superton" in Hundepfeifen-Oktaven - perfekt. Insgesamt wird "Emotions" mit einigem Soul verputzt und als "schwarze Discobombe" überzeugend präsentiert. "If it´s over"-the people will still love you.Getragen-erhaben singt sich Mariah souverän durch dieses kleine "Emotions"-Highlight-Kompliment. Wirklich gespannt war ich allerdings auf "Someday". In der Originalversion ein funky, mitreissender Upbeat-Popsong - wie soll das "ausgestöpselt" funktionieren? Wie, dass weiß ich auch jetzt noch nicht; trotzdem kommmt das selbe spritzige Feeling des ursprünglich aufwendig produzierten "Mariah Carey"-Songs absolut rüber. Wahnsinn! Und aus dem Staunen kommt man nicht mehr heraus: Mit der sehr viel souligeren Version ihres Debüts "Vision of Love" übertrifft sie sogar - so finde ich zumindest - die Studioversion. Balladesker und viel "schwärzer" gewinnt "Vision of Love" an Gesicht; vorher fehlte mir bei dem Song irgendwie ein wenig Eindeutigkeit ("Weder Fisch noch Fleisch"). Auch "Make it happen" kommt mit einem witzigen Pianosample gleich sehr symphatisch rüber; ein ganz großer Moment ist aber natürlich die Single "I´ll be there" (von den "Jackson 5" im Original): Hier beweist Mariah, dass "Unplugged" keinesfalls nach stimmlosem Akustkgitarren-Geschluchze klingen muss; das fantastische "Live"-Gefühl verleiht Song und Sängern (Trey Lorenz als Mariahs Duettpartner ist hier keineswegs "Big Nasty", sondern überaus elegant und geschmeidig zu hören) stimmlich Flügel. Wunderschön gemacht. Ist übrigens dann auch der Abschluss des Albums mit "Can´t let go": grazil arrangiert und chorunterstützt wird "Can´t let go" zur Soul-Superballade - beeindruckend wie auf dem ganzen Album die unglaubliche Präzision und die teilweise sogar überragender als produziert klingende Live-Stimme Mariahs. Dass sie außer "I don´t wanna cry" und "Love takes time" alle Singles, die sie bis dato veröffentlicht hatte, präsentiert, ist ein zusätzlicher Mutbeweis: Schließlich kennt man die Songs in der produzierten Version in- und auswendig - auch als Nicht-Carey-Fan, denn allein 3 auf "Unplugged" performte Songs waren ´92 bereits auf der Nr.1 gewesen. (Rene´Freudenthal) Hier zeigt die stimmgewaltige Amerikanerin, wie soulig sie klingen kann, wenn die Studiotechnik ausgestöpselt (unplugged) bleibt und statt dessen eine 27(!)köpfige Begleitband für den guten Ton sorgt.
